Inspired by Nigel Slater's Simple Suppers, we're proud to present Lily's Lovely Lunches. The secret of any meal is the ingredients, and Lily has her shopping list all written out.
First up, soda bread. Lily carefully sifts together the flour and bicarbonate, ready to activate it with live yogurt.
Her sous-chef steps in for some of the messy work.
Why do bakers have to work so hard? Because they knead the dough. Oh please yerselves.
Loaf in the oven, the chef preps the main dish.
Ta-da! A simple, hearty Irish stew. Perfect for mopping up with that home baked bread.
On to the patisserie station.
How about these then? Beautiful apple tarts.
And here are the results. One lovely loaf of home baked soda bread, with a crackling crust and a sound like a drum when you tap it on the bottom.
A slow cooked lamb stew, with tender vegetables and a simple, herby stock.
And gorgeous apple tarts, fresh from the oven. (Lily made them beautifully but silly Daddy managed to burn the undersides. So we scraped the lovely apples off and ate it with Greek yogurt).
All we need now is a hungry family.
The soda bread works so well with the stew.
Time for dessert.
But even Nigel Slater can't top this - walking it off along the beach. Thank you for our lovely lunch, Lily.
