Gold.

What's Lily holding? Well, last night, we gave her a present of a pink Olympics t-shirt. And told her she'd need to wear it as we had tickets to see something special.

So this morning, we boarded a train to Stratford. Just a few bus stops away from where we lived until a year ago.

Guess where we were going?

It was a fantastic sunny day and while it was busy, it wasn't too crowded that early in the day.

There's the Orbit, currently Britain's tallest sculpture.

Our tickets were for the bronze finals of the handball, which was in the basketball arena. We'd never even heard of handball until a couple of weeks ago, but it's pretty cool. And the arena was astonishing.

The organisers were going to great lengths to make sure it was the best atmosphere possible. From all the amazing volunteers high fiving us and keeping us entertained on the way in to the event build up. This was just warming up the crowd...

The sport itself is fast moving stuff. By the looks of this photo, Croatia had just walloped another one past Hungary who were heading straight back for a counter strike.

After that, we headed up to the top of the Park Live hill for a photo opportunity.

And who could pass up a meal on the balcony of the biggest McDonald's in Europe?

Check out the view.

It was an amazing, amazing morning and we really got a flavour of the scale, excitement and sheer spirit of the Olympics. Top drawer.
